Blowing in the Wind
Flowers are the unexpected subject of hidden intensity in Marsha Owett’s latest series of photographs “Blowing in the Wind.” Looking to her immediate surroundings As always, Owett draws on Action Painting and her training in Abstract Expressionism for her photographs, suggesting brushstrokes through in-camera movement. In this case, the artist shoots flowers on long exposures as they’re blowing in the wind– the resulting streaks of bright color create a turbulence of emotional uncertainty, a feeling of being flung on the whims of the atmosphere. Moments of stillness and focus draw the viewer back.
